ATLANTA - On Thursday, June 2, 2016 @ 11:00 am, the newest class of Community Supervision Officers will complete the Department’s eight week basic training program. The graduation ceremony will take place at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) in Forsyth, GA. At the conclusion, each officer will be certified as a Community Supervision Officer (CSO) by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.).

The newly certified officers will join fellow CSO’s currently responsible for the community-based supervision of approximately 180,000 adult felony offenders throughout Georgia.

DCS Director of Field Operations David Morrison says the class is a very welcomed addition to the department.

“We are very proud of their individual and collective achievements,” said Morrison. “Over the past eight (8) weeks, these men and women have overcome many obstacles, challenges and tests. Throughout the entire process, they have exemplified teamwork, integrity and professionalism,” added Morrison. “These are the values that will help them not only succeed, but excel in the services they will provide to Georgia communities.”

The BCSOT program includes: supervision techniques, investigation procedures, intervention strategies, Georgia law, policy and procedure, interview skills, physical fitness, arrest procedures, defensive tactics, computer interaction, and firearms qualification.

The new CSO’s will be working in the following locations: Blakely, Macon, Columbus, Winder, Marietta, Conyers, Dalton, Rome, Albany, Dallas, Statesboro, Lawrenceville, Valdosta, Atlanta, Hartwell, Jesup, Augusta, DeKalb, Carrollton, Blairsville, Cedartown, Morrow, Monroe, Newnan, Dublin, Marietta, Canton, Lakeland, and Americus.
