Twenty-four officers are set to graduate from the Basic Probation/Parole Officer Training Course (BPPOTC) at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC). The graduation ceremony will begin at 11:00am on Friday, September 18, 2015 in the GPSTC auditorium. The graduation ceremony concludes the eight week training course. All graduates will be certified as Community Supervision Officers by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.).

The graduating officers are employed by the state’s newest agency - the Georgia Department of Community Supervision (DCS). They will soon join the ranks of Community Supervision Officers currently supervising approximately 180,000 adult felony offenders throughout Georgia.

DCS Assistant Commissioner, Scott Maurer says the new officers are a welcomed addition to the DCS team. “Over the past several weeks, these officers have spent numerous hours in training and testing in preparation to protect and serve the citizens of Georgia through effective and efficient community-based offender supervision. We are glad to have them as a very important part of our team and look forward to the excellent work they will perform,” said Maurer.

The BPPOTC includes supervision techniques, investigation procedures, intervention strategies, Georgia law, policy and procedure, interview skills, physical fitness, arrest procedures, defensive tactics, computer interaction and firearms qualification.

The new officers will be working in the following locations: Macon, Atlanta, Calhoun, Lawrenceville, Columbus, Savannah, Monroe, Thomson, Valdosta, Newnan, LaFayette, Douglasville, Marietta, Carrollton, Adairsville, Lyons, Waycross and Albany.
