Enhanced Halloween Safety Measures: Georgia Department of Community Supervision Joined Forces with Local Law Enforcement during Halloween

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Community Supervision (DCS) collaborated with various local law enforcement agencies around the state to ensure a safer Halloween during this year's festivities.

Every year, DCS diligently works to intensify supervision of high-risk sex offenders on Halloween. To enhance public safety and mitigate potential risks, the agency has devised proactive initiatives throughout the state, focusing on its core mission of safeguarding the public during the Halloween holiday.

Patrick Holsey, Director of Field Operations at DCS, emphasized that Community Supervision Officers statewide were fully prepared to enforce the heightened supervision requirements.

Holsey stated, "Every DCS office has developed a comprehensive plan to bolster our supervision efforts during Halloween activities. Our highly trained officers were present in neighborhoods and communities, closely monitoring these individuals and ensuring their strict compliance with Georgia law and the conditions of their supervision."

While the specifics of this statewide initiative may have varied from county to county, each DCS Circuit worked closely with local law enforcement partners to craft strategies to strengthen supervision efforts in their respective communities.

Lori Rozier, Manager of DCS's Sex Offender Administration Unit, emphasized the significance of the mission, saying, "During Halloween, we must strengthen our dedication to safeguarding the public. As thousands of children engage in festivities throughout every community in our state, we unquestionably bear a substantial responsibility.”

On Halloween night, DCS officers verified the residences of sex offenders, conducted compliance checks, and promptly apprehended individuals found to be in violation of the law or the conditions of their supervision.

DCS is entrusted with the community-based supervision of approximately 190,000 individuals serving felony probation or parole. Among these individuals, approximately 11,000 are registered sex offenders or are being supervised under sex offender conditions.
