ATLANTA - Governor Nathan Deal issued a proclamation today declaring July 16 through July 22, as Community Supervision Week. This week is set aside to honor the dedicated men and women who serve and protect Georgia citizens through effective and efficient community-based offender supervision.

The proclamation reads, in part, “Effective community corrections operations are essential to the success of Georgia’s criminal justice system. Community corrections professionals perform duties that are emotionally demanding and sometimes dangerous in order to protect Georgia’s communities from criminal activity.”

DCS Commissioner, Michael Nail believes DCS officers are deserving of this recognition.

“This week is an opportunity to recognize the selfless service community supervision professionals across Georgia provide to our communities. It is important that we take this time to express our gratitude and appreciation to the more than 2,000 DCS employees working to better the lives of so many of our fellow Georgians,” said Nail.

DCS Chief Operating Officer Bert Flewellen says it’s a privilege to work with such a great team of individuals.

“I am very fortunate to work alongside some of the most dedicated community supervision professionals in the nation,” said Flewellen. “The commitment to excellence exhibited by our officers is a source of great pride for myself and all of DCS,” added Flewellen.
