Message from the Commissioner

Welcome to the Georgia Department of Community Supervision. It is an honor to serve as Commissioner of DCS and to lead an agency that plays such an important role in Georgia’s criminal justice system. Since its creation in 2015, DCS has built a strong foundation rooted in public safety, accountability, evidence-based practices, and the belief that effective supervision can create opportunities for successful outcomes.

Today, we have an opportunity to build on that foundation.

The future of community supervision will require us to remain focused on what works while continuing to challenge ourselves to find what works better. At DCS, that means embracing innovation, using data and technology to strengthen our work, investing in our people, and building meaningful partnerships with the courts, law enforcement, service providers, employers, and communities we serve.

But progress is not simply about new programs or new technology. It is about people. Every day, DCS employees make decisions that affect individuals, families, and communities across Georgia. Their professionalism, commitment, and willingness to serve are at the center of everything we accomplish.

As we look ahead, our focus will remain clear: protect public safety, hold individuals accountable, and connect those under our supervision with the resources and opportunities that can help them succeed. We will continue to pursue evidence-based practices while looking beyond what we have always done toward the next opportunity to improve.

I am confident in where DCS is today, and even more excited about where we can go together.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the Georgia Department of Community Supervision and for supporting the men and women who serve Georgia every day.

Sincerely,

Scott Maurer
