As Training and Professional Development Director, Jim oversees curriculum development and coordination of basic and specialized training to meet the unique challenges of community corrections, creating and implementing the Department’s professional development strategy, and developing employees’ skills to improve productivity and retention.
Jim has served the State of Georgia since 1994. He began his career with the Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer. Jim was hired by the State Board of Pardons and Paroles in 2000. He served in several capacities including Parole Investigator, Parole Officer, and Assistant Chief. Jim has worked as Academy Director at the Department of Community Supervision since its inception in 2015.
Jim holds a Master’s in Public Safety Administration from Columbus State University and is a Georgia Law Enforcement Command College graduate. He is a Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.) Certified Master Instructor, possessing advanced instructor certifications in the use of force, firearms, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, emergency medical, GLOCK Armorer, and health & wellness. Jim also possesses his P.O.S.T Executive and Managerial Certifications.
