Governor Brian P. Kemp Proclaims July 16 - 22, 2023, as Community Supervision Week: Recognizing the vital role of community supervision in public safety

Atlanta, GA — Georgia Department of Community Supervision (DCS) joins Governor Brian P. Kemp in applauding the proclamation of Community Supervision Week, a momentous occasion that acknowledges the contributions of community supervision professionals in promoting rehabilitation, ensuring public safety, and successful reintegration.

Community Supervision Week serves as a platform to honor the dedication and unwavering commitment of community supervision officers and professionals who play a pivotal role in fostering positive change within our communities. Their tireless efforts and innovative approaches transform lives and create opportunities for individuals to rebuild their lives.

Governor Kemp’s proclamation reads in part, “The Georgia Department of Community Supervision is nationally recognized for their contributions to the community corrections profession which reflects positively on our State.”  

DCS Commissioner Micheal W. Nail considers the crucial role that community supervision plays in shaping the lives of those transitioning from the criminal justice system to society. “The work that our team performs daily embodies the principles of restorative justice and highlights the transformative power of a community supervision professional,” he states.  “These selfless servants help individuals address the root causes of their behavior, acquire vital skills, and become productive members of their communities,” Nail further explains. 

During Community Supervision Week, we urge communities across Georgia to reflect on the crucial role of community supervision in building and maintaining public safety. By supporting community supervision professionals and embracing evidence-based practices, we can empower individuals, protect communities, and promote a more just and compassionate society.
