ATLANTA - Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia presented its prestigious ‘Community Partner of the Year’ award to the Governor’s Office of Transition, Support and Reentry (GOTSR) on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 in Macon, GA. The award was presented to GOTSR in recognition of its efforts to help returning citizens and those citizens currently under community supervision reenter public life and transition into law-abiding, productive members of the community.

GOTSR Assistant Director Jay Sanders says the award speaks to the progress the agency is making.

“We are extremely honored to receive the ‘Community Partner of the Year’ award. This recognition is truly a testament to the important work being done and the advancements being made by the men and women of GOSTR, the Department of Community Supervision (DCS) and our numerous community stakeholders and partners,” said Sanders.

Operating under the umbrella of DCS, GOTSR is tasked with the important role of organizing and providing assistance to returning citizens in efforts to further reduce Georgia’s recidivism rate.

DCS Assistant Commissioner Scott Maurer says, “Facilitating successful reentry and reintegration is a crucial component of community-based offender supervision. The work being done by GOTSR is extremely important to the success of returning citizens. DCS is both proud of and proud to partner with GOTSR in this effort.”

The award ceremony was part of Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia’s celebration of first-year operations as the Helms Career Center. Goodwill Industries’ vision is for the Helms Center to become a community service hub for the greater Macon area.
