ATLANTA - The Department of Community Supervision has named Barbara Neville Director of Misdemeanor Probation Oversight. As director, Neville will manage operations of the unit charged with implementing the rules and regulations promulgated by the newly formed Board of Community Supervision. Additionally, Neville will develop processes for the registration and compliance of misdemeanor probation providers across the state of Georgia.

Neville began her career with the Georgia Department of Corrections in 2006. While with the Department of Corrections, she served as probation officer, program manager and director of Offender Administration. In 2012, Neville transferred to the State Board of Pardons and Paroles where she served as a hearing examiner and Max Out Re-Entry (M.O.R.E.) program manager. Neville holds a master’s degree in public administration and is pursuing a doctorate in public administration and leadership.

Georgia Department of Community Supervision Commissioner, Michael Nail says Neville is more than capable of leading misdemeanor probation reform in Georgia. “Barbara has a varied background in criminal justice to include corrections, probation and parole. She has excelled in every position in which she has served. I’m confident she will do the same in this new role, “ said Nail.

Misdemeanor probation reform is part of Governor Deal’s ongoing criminal justice reform initiatives for the state of Georgia. The passage of House Bill 310 in July of this year brought about numerous changes and improvements to misdemeanor probation requirements and regulation in Georgia.

Neville says she understands the importance of this new role and that she is eager to serve the citizens of Georgia in this capacity. “This opportunity allows for oversight and assistance with misdemeanor probation compliance and I am very excited to become a part of this team. I look forward to creating a more efficient and transparent process throughout the state,” said Neville.

Neville’s promotion became effective August 31, 2015.
