Atlanta, Georgia - The Department of Community Supervision (DCS) is proud to highlight the crucial role played by District Public Information Officers (DPIOs) in fostering transparency and effective communication within the Department. Acting as liaisons between DCS and the public at the local level, DPIOs serve as powerful conduits of information, ensuring that accurate and timely details about agency policies, procedures, and initiatives reach the community within their respective districts.

As an extension of DCS’ Office of External Affairs, the mission of the District Public Information Officer Program is to leverage dedicated, on-the-ground spokespersons to facilitate best-in-class communication with internal and external stakeholders, promote positive awareness of the department, and provide public information resources for community events and media-involved situations.

“The vision of the DPIO Program is pretty clear,” says Jamelle Washington, DCS Public Information Officer. “Our vision is to become a nationally acclaimed communications program composed of strategists who are proactive, creative, innovative, and collaborative in communicating clear, concise, timely, relevant, and consistent information” he further explains.

With a commitment to building public trust, these dedicated officers actively engage with community members at a high level by participating in outreach events, attending meetings, and serving as agency representatives and serve to inform the public, stakeholders, and community members about the important role DCS plays in communities throughout Georgia. Additionally, DPIOs facilitate informed discussions and community engagement, strengthening the partnership between DCS and the public and working closely with the department’s Public Information Officer (PIO) to ensure accurate reporting and responsible media coverage of agency activities.

“DCS recognizes the indispensable contribution of District Public Information Officers in promoting transparency and effective communication”, says Shanta Porter, DCS Director of External Affairs. “Through their dedicated efforts, DPIOs unveil the veil, allowing the community to better understand the Department's mission, fostering trust, and ensuring a safer, more informed society”, she further adds.
