Sonja Fillingame was appointed by the Mayor and City Council of Union City as City Manager to ensure the efficient day-to-day operations of the City. Her current responsibilities include working closely with municipal departments and staff to ensure that policies and procedures are performed efficiently and economically, preparing the annual budget, promoting a positive image of the City, coordinating community relations and presenting her office as one with an “open door” attitude to the citizens and visitors of the City. As a graduate of Georgia State University, Sonja holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She began her career in government approximately 20 years ago. She has served as Director of Operations for Union City, Grants Administrator for the City of Sandy Springs, Program Director at the Governor's Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, and Compliance Manager (Constituent Services) for former Governor Zell Miller. Her past responsibilities included administration, supervision, planning and coordination.
